Welcome to another weekly update on Reincarnated as a familiar. This week I ended up spending a lot of time dealing with doubt about my writing. Unlike last week, this one wasn’t nearly as fun. In the end, though, it all worked out.
As I was writing chapter five, I felt like it was complete garbage. I kept struggling to link my ideas together and wasn’t happy with my phrasing. All of that lead to me spending way more time writing during each session.
I write two times a day and plan for those sessions to each be an hour long. It may not seem like much, but it adds up rather quickly. Ordinarily, I reach my word count goal with ten to fifteen minutes left in my hour. However, this week, I was frequently using the whole hour or even going over by a bit. Needless to say, this stressed me out.
As I closed in on the end of the week, I was worried that I was going to have to rewrite this chapter heavily. Every day felt like a battle, and it was wearing me out. The shift to colder, rainier weather didn’t help my mood any either. So, I had to take some preventative actions.
I used a lot of tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years to keep myself positive. I made sure to get even a small amount of exercise each day. Additionally, I made sure to get out and into the sun whenever I could and cleaned up my living space a little. All of these things really helped boost my mood and get me through the week.
Finally, Saturday came and along with it the dreaded read through and editing session. And you know what? It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I rephrased a few things and cleaned up a decent amount of grammar mistakes, but overall I felt like it read pretty well.
I spent all week dealing with doubt about my writing, but a lot of it ended up being all in my head. All in all, I think it was an excellent experience to have. I’m sure I’ll have this problem in the future, and this has taught me the importance of powering through.
That’s all for this week’s update. It was a rough one, but it was a good learning experience. I’ll be back next week for another update. Thanks for reading!
